Level 1
CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) is the DoD’s framework for verifying that defense suppliers protect sensitive government information. CMMC Level 1 is the baseline tier focused on safeguarding Federal Contract Information (FCI) using the security requirements in FAR 52.204-21.
At Gromax Precision Die & Mfg. Inc., our cybersecurity practices are aligned with CMMC Level 1 requirements for programs that involve FCI. That means we treat customer and contract information as controlled business data—protected by access controls, basic cyber hygiene, and documented handling practices—so it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.
CMMC Level 1 matters because it’s about the things that actually reduce day-to-day risk:
• Access control: limiting system and file access to authorized users
• Account and device management: controlling who logs in and what connects
• System protection: baseline malware protection and secure configurations
• Physical protection: protecting the devices and spaces where FCI may be handled
• Basic incident readiness: having a plan when something doesn’t look right
From a program standpoint, we apply CMMC Level 1 handling when:
• Your contract or flow-down requirements reference FCI / FAR 52.204-21
• We’re supporting defense or defense-adjacent work where FCI is present
• Your customer requires supplier cyber hygiene validation as part of onboarding or sourcing
One important clarification: CMMC Level 1 is typically validated through an annual self-assessment and annual affirmation (it’s not the same third-party certification model used at higher levels).
